Weaves Stealing Men Arrested In Durban City

Three men were arrested for allegedly stealing weaves from women’s heads in the Durban city centre.

Law enforcement suggested that the weaves  stealing men are part of a larger criminal syndicate operating in the area.

The suspected weave thieves were apprehended in two separate incidents, targeting female commuters at busy taxi ranks in the Central Business District (CBD).

According to Ensure Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, one of the suspects was caught after a female commuter was robbed of her weave and the thief attempted to flee.

In a separate incident, two more men were arrested for similar thefts, allegedly confronting women at taxi ranks and snatching their artificial hairpieces before escaping.

Weave Theft Epidemic

The stolen weaves are valued at over R20,000 in some cases, raising concerns about the scope of the thefts.

Authorities believe that the three men arrested are part of a broader criminal syndicate that has been targeting female commuters across the CBD.

The rise in these types of robberies, which occur in crowded and busy areas, has alarmed both the public and local authorities.

The three men, who were taken into police custody, face charges related to theft and robbery.

According to the Police, investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of network as there is the possibility of a larger network operating in the city, with hopes of uncovering additional suspects and preventing further incidents.
