Sello Machitje’s body was discovered in an open field in Bekkersdal, Westonaria, over a week after he was reported missing. It is alleged that he was hijacked in the Vaal area last Monday after leaving his home to travel to the Eastern Cape on a work assignment. The DWS has issued a formal statement conveying its condolences to Machitje’s family, loved ones, and colleagues. The department has called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.

Machitje’s stolen bakkie was recovered in Alexandra, and a suspect has been arrested for possessing the stolen vehicle.
