Watch| Zuma Urges Malema To Aim For A Two Thirds Majority In Upcoming Elections

Former South African President Jacob Zuma has called on Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema to work towards achieving a two-thirds majority in the upcoming general elections. Zuma made this statement in a video message to Malema on the occasion of his 43rd birthday.

Zuma referred to Malema as “my brother” and emphasised that Malema, at his current age, is in a prime position to bring about change in the country.

Zuma expressed his desire for Malema and the EFF to secure a two-thirds majority, effectively removing the African National Congress (ANC) from power.

“Happy birthday, you are now 43. That is a very good age in the circumstances in which we are. I want to wish you a happy birthday and wish you and all of us to change the country this year whether they like it or not.

“We must win with two thirds majority and you’ll be saying when I got to this level, I was 43. Enjoy, do whatever you want, but be ready that we must have our two thirds as a black majority in this country. Then we’ll sort out other things thereafter,” Zuma said.

The general elections, scheduled for 29 May, will see South Africans casting their votes for the 2024 national and provincial elections.

The EFF has expressed confidence in winning Gauteng and unseating the ANC. At the party’s provincial manifesto launch, Malema declared war against the ANC, stating that their lives would improve if they voted for the EFF.

Malema also highlighted the need to unite black people against the influence of the Oppenheimer family, whom he claimed were using their wealth to manipulate South Africa. He urged the public not to be swayed by the Oppenheimers’ money and called for a united effort to take back the country.

In a recent statement, Malema mentioned the possibility of a national coalition between the ANC and the EFF, but only if Cyril Ramaphosa was not leading the ANC.

As the general elections draw near, the political landscape in South Africa is becoming increasingly dynamic. The call by former President Zuma for Malema and the EFF to strive for a two thirds majority adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming elections.
