Watch| Two Arrested At Mall Of Africa In Connection With East London Taxi Violence

Three suspects linked to taxi violence-related murders in East London have been arrested by a special task team assigned to prevent, combat and investigate serious and violent crime in the Eastern Cape.

The investigation primarily focuses on a spate of murders that occurred between November 2023 and August 2024, resulting in the tragic deaths of two taxi owners, a taxi driver, and a member of a taxi association.

Details of the Arrests

Two of the suspects were detained at the Mall of Africa in Midrand, Johannesburg on Friday, November 8, 2024. The third suspect was arrested in East London the following day.

These arrests come amid a broader investigation that has already seen police questioning four other individuals depicted in a video circulating online. This video has raised awareness about the serious nature of the ongoing taxi violence.

Evidence and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have seized four pistols and an AK-47 rifle from the suspects. These firearms will undergo ballistics testing to determine if they are linked to the murders or any other violent crime.
