Six cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery suspects were shot and killed in a dramatic police shootout in Laudium, Tshwane, on Monday.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, officers engaged the suspects in a gunfight, fatally wounding six of them.

“Six suspects were fatally wounded during a shootout with the police in Laudium, and police recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” said Masondo.

The crime scene remains active, and more details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.

KZN Shootout Leaves Five More Suspects Dead

This latest CIT-related shootout comes less than a day after five suspected robbers were shot and killed in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) during another police operation.

In Lindelani, Ntuzuma, officers confronted a group of suspects believed to be planning a business robbery in KwaMashu. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers were acting on intelligence when they came across an altercation between the suspects.

“The suspects’ two vehicles were parked at the corner of Mdubu and Melusi streets, and it is suspected that the suspects had a disagreement, which led to shots being fired among themselves. Police stumbled upon that altercation, and the suspects then turned their guns to the police, and police retaliated.”

Four suspects were shot dead on the spot, while a fifth suspect was found nearby with fatal gunshot wounds. Police recovered three firearms at the scene.

Authorities have yet to confirm if the two incidents are linked, and investigations are ongoing. More details to follow.
