WATCH| Shocking Video Shows 4-Year-Old Boy Forced To Drink Beer

Police have registered a criminal case after a disturbing video emerged showing a four-year-old boy being forced to drink beer.

While no arrests have been made yet, authorities have removed four children aged between seven months and 11 years, including the boy in the video, placing them in the care of safety parents.

In the video, the boy can be seen squatting on the ground, holding a bottle of beer in one hand and a glass in the other, drinking at the prompting of a man, who can be heard laughing and instructing him: “Sluk, sluk.”

Multiple bottles of beer surround the child, and his legs appear badly bruised.

Police and Social Development Respond To Video 

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that the matter was reported to Mitchells Plain SAPS and transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for investigation.

“Four children aged between seven months and 11 years were removed by personnel attached to the Department of Social Development and placed in the care of safety parents. Investigation continues; no arrest yet,” Van Wyk said.

The Department of Social Development (DSD) also emphasised the seriousness of the matter, warning that alcohol consumption in children can have serious and lifelong effects, including impaired brain development and emotional and behavioural issues.

Whistleblowers Criticise Police Response

Whistleblowers have criticised the response of senior police officials, alleging that a colonel failed to take immediate action after a home visit.

Zona Morton, a whistleblower, slammed the police, saying:

“The way in which the colonel responded to my plea to ascertain that the child is safe was inadequate. You can see on the video that the child was forced to consume alcohol.”

Police have not commented on these allegations, and the investigation by both SAPS and DSD continues.
