WATCH| Looting Erupts After Orange Truck Overturns On N3, Causing Hours Of Traffic Delays

Looting broke out on the N3 on Wednesday morning after a truck transporting oranges overturned, with members of the public seen removing boxes of fruit from the crash scene while recovery teams worked to clear the highway.

The incident occurred shortly after 6am after the M7 interchange, where the overturned truck blocked several lanes and triggered traffic congestion stretching for kilometres. Although no injuries were reported, the looting forced authorities to temporarily close the road again before recovery operations could continue.

Videos shared on social media showed dozens of people stopping at the scene and loading boxes of oranges into private vehicles as traffic remained backed up.

N3 Looting Erupts As Public Removes Oranges From Overturned Truck

The N3 looting unfolded at around 9.35am while recovery crews were still working to remove the overturned truck and clear the roadway.

Eyewitness videos circulating online captured people carrying away boxes of what appeared to be oranges from the truck’s cargo. Crime activist Yusuf Abramjee and traffic reporter Nancy Palien also shared updates from the scene showing members of the public loading the fruit into their vehicles.

The opportunistic theft disrupted recovery efforts and prompted authorities to implement a second road closure to ensure crews could continue working safely.

N3 Truck Crash Causes Severe Delays During Morning Peak

The truck overturned shortly after 6am after the M7 interchange, leaving several lanes blocked during the busy morning rush.

The incident caused lengthy traffic queues that stretched for kilometres as emergency personnel and recovery teams responded to the scene.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area while officials managed the congestion and worked to remove the damaged vehicle.

Recovery Teams Reopen N3 After Clearing Crash Scene

Recovery specialists from Roadstar Heavies and Drizit successfully removed the overturned truck and cleared the scattered cargo from the roadway.

The highway was fully reopened at approximately 10.37am after the recovery operation was completed.

No injuries were reported in the crash. Although opportunistic looting occurred at the scene, no arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
