The fatal incident happened on Sunday evening, 3 May, in the Gezina area, a stretch long associated with dangerous street racing.

According to reports, a white Renault Kwid lost control during the suspected drag race and collided with a light-coloured sedan. The impact left one person dead at the scene, while multiple others sustained injuries.
Illegal drag racing has been an ongoing concern in the area, with residents repeatedly raising alarms over reckless behaviour on the road.

The crash has reignited frustration among locals, who say the road frequently turns into a racing strip, particularly on Sunday evenings.
Anti-crime activist Yusuf Abramjee shared footage of the incident, drawing attention to long-standing complaints about the gatherings that put both motorists and pedestrians at risk.
Community members and motorists are now urging authorities, including the Tshwane Metro Police, to clamp down on illegal racing and improve enforcement in the area.
