Wanted Suspect In IFP Deputy Chief Whip’s Murder Killed In Police Shootout

A suspect linked to the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Deputy Chief Whip, Khethamabala Sithole, was shot dead by police in the early hours of Thursday morning in Duduza, Ekurhuleni.

The man, identified as Zamani Ngila Ximba, had been on the run since May after the fatal shooting of Sithole and the attempted murder of two others in Katlehong. Police tracked Ximba to a hiding place in Duduza following months of investigation.

Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the incident, stating, “Zamani Ngila Ximba, who was wanted for the alleged murder of Inkatha Freedom Party Deputy Chief Whip, Mr Khethamabala Sithole, and for the attempted murder of two other people, was fatally wounded during the early hours on Thursday, 09 October 2025, in Duduza, Ekurhuleni.”

Shootout Erupts During Arrest Attempt

According to Masondo, the confrontation turned deadly when officers tried to apprehend Ximba. “When officers attempted to arrest Ximba, he allegedly fired shots at them, prompting police to return fire,” he said.

Police sources revealed that Ximba had been evading capture for several months, and intelligence-led operations had finally pinpointed his whereabouts. The shootout ended with Ximba fatally wounded at the scene.

Two other suspects, Bhekukuhle Sithole (36) and Mkhululi Sithole (33), were arrested shortly after the May shooting and charged with murder and attempted murder.

Both men remain in custody as their case proceeds through the courts. Their next court appearance is set for 20 November 2025, according to Masondo.
