Most-Wanted CIT Murder Suspects Killed In Boksburg Police Shootout

Two of South Africa’s most wanted suspects linked to multiple cash-in-transit (CIT) heists and murder cases were gunned down in a dramatic police shootout in Boksburg, Gauteng, on Saturday afternoon.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, the high-stakes confrontation resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms, including an AK-47 rifle.
“Fortunately, no members of the SAPS were harmed during the incident,” Masondo confirmed.

The suspects were wanted for a series of violent crimes in both Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), authorities said.

The operation that led to the fatal encounter involved a coordinated effort between multiple police units, private security companies, and counterintelligence teams.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni praised the collaboration and shared alarming figures related to cash-in-transit attacks.
“Since the start of the year, 76 such incidents have been recorded nationwide, with 18 security guards tragically killed since January 2024,” he said.

To deal with the surge in CIT-related violence, Gauteng has been split into northern and southern teams to improve response time and increase police visibility. “We aim to stabilise the situation by being proactive and ensuring law enforcement is always a step ahead,” Mthombeni stated.

He added that recent breakthroughs in high-profile CIT cases in KZN and Gauteng demonstrate “significant progress” in dismantling criminal networks.

Law Enforcement Applauded for Bravery and Precision

The Ministry of Police lauded the officers involved in the operation for their courage and professionalism.

“Their bravery and professionalism continue to disrupt organised crime and protect our communities,” said ministry spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi.
“These actions serve as a clear message that law enforcement remains resolute in the fight against violent crime and will continue to pursue justice without fear or favour.”

The incident underscores the rising danger in CIT-related crime and the increased efforts by authorities to bring perpetrators to justice swiftly and decisively.
