Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala Denied Bail As Multiple Attempted Murder Cases Centralised For Trial

Controversial figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala will remain in custody after the Johannesburg High Court dismissed his bail appeal, ruling that his release would not serve the interests of justice.

The alleged crime boss faces attempted murder charges for allegedly ordering a hit on his socialite girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, in October 2023.

In addition to this case, Matlala is also facing 10 other attempted murder charges linked to various attacks, including those targeting taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni in August 2022 and DJ Wetties (real name Seunkie Mokubung) in January 2024.

All Charges Centralised for a Unified Trial

The High Court confirmed that all of Matlala’s pending cases will be centralised ahead of his trial, which he will attend while remaining in custody.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the decision, emphasising that the work to ensure justice continues.

“The judgment proves once more that, as the NPA, we cannot rest on our laurels but must continue working tirelessly to ensure that justice prevails,” said NPA spokesperson Phindin Mjonondwane.

Matlala is expected to return to the Alexandra Magistrates Court in November, where the final steps in centralising the cases are likely to be completed.

The decision marks a major development in the series of high-profile cases involving Matlala, whose name has been linked to multiple violent incidents across Gauteng.
