Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala Back In Court As 11 Attempted Murder Cases Are Centralised For Trial

Alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is set to appear in court again on Monday, where 11 attempted murder cases against him will be centralised in preparation for trial.
Matlala faces serious allegations, including orchestrating a hit on his socialite girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, and being linked to 10 other attempted murder charges involving high-profile individuals such as taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and DJ Wetties, whose real name is Seunkie Mokubung.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed its intention to consolidate all the charges, allowing them to be heard as a single case.

Matlala’s most recent appearance was in October at the Johannesburg High Court, where his bail application was denied.

At the time, Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane described Matlala as a significant threat to public safety.
“We are of the view that the court made the right decision in denying Mr Matlala bail, considering the severity of the charges and the risk to public safety as well as law enforcement officers, including the investigating officers and the prosecutors involved in this matter,” said Mjonondwane.
