Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala Allegedly Claimed Ties To Senior Police Officers, Madlanga Commission Told

Tembisa Hospital tender mogul Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala allegedly boasted of his close connections with several senior police officers during a raid at his Centurion mansion, a witness told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The revelation was made by a member of the Gauteng Counterintelligence Operations (GCI-Ops) Unit, identified as Witness C, who testified that Matlala’s remarks appeared to be an attempt to intimidate investigators.

The raid took place in December as part of the search for Matlala’s former business partner, Jerry Boshoga, who was kidnapped and remains missing.

According to Witness C, as the team conducted the search, Matlala began dropping the names of high-ranking police officials, allegedly claiming to have personal or familial connections with them.

“He named the Deputy National Commissioner General Sibiya. The second one, he named General Feroz Khan and General Shibiri. He further indicated that he is related to one General Senona,” Witness C told the Commission.

The testimony has added a new layer to the ongoing inquiry, which has been investigating corruption and misconduct linked to public sector tenders. Matlala, who has faced mounting scrutiny over his business dealings with the Tembisa Hospital, has yet to respond publicly to the allegations made during the hearing.

Inquiry Probes Possible Intimidation of Investigators

Witness C suggested that Matlala’s name-dropping might have been a deliberate strategy to discourage law enforcement officers from proceeding with their investigation.

The Commission is now expected to further examine claims of interference and intimidation within law enforcement circles as part of its broader probe.

The inquiry continues, with more witnesses expected to testify in the coming weeks.
