Verulam Woman Threatened With Throat-Slitting During Brutal Robbery

A 60-year-old woman was violently robbed in broad daylight on Wick Street in Verulam CBD, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday morning around 11:00.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the woman had just exited the Sizakala Centre when a lone suspect approached her. She was suddenly accosted and attacked, leaving her terrified and injured.

Woman Assaulted for Refusing to Hand Over Valuables

The Mt. View resident reported that the suspect repeatedly struck her on the head with a weapon when she resisted giving up her belongings. Despite her attempts to protect herself, the attacker’s violent threats escalated.

“She was repeatedly assaulted on her head with a weapon when she refused to hand over her valuables,” RUSA confirmed.

The ordeal ended only when the suspect threatened to slit the woman’s throat if she did not comply. Fearing for her life, the victim was forced to hand over R1,500 in cash and her Techno mobile phone.

The suspect fled the scene immediately afterward. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident.
