Vanderbijlpark Scholar Transport Tragedy: Driver Accused In Crash That Killed 14 Pupils Back In Court

The driver accused of causing the devastating scholar transport crash that killed 14 schoolchildren in Vanderbijlpark is expected to return to court on Thursday.

Ayanda Dludla (22) faces 14 counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of driving without a permit following the fatal accident earlier this year.

The case will again be heard at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court.

Vanderbijlpark Driver Previously Dropped Bail Bid in Court

During a previous court appearance, Dludla abandoned his application for bail.

Prosecutors allege that he was transporting schoolchildren when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a truck in January.

The crash claimed the lives of 14 pupils and left several others injured, prompting widespread outrage and renewed calls for stricter regulation of scholar transport operators.

Dludla was reportedly a member of the Gauteng Transport Association, which later acknowledged that concerns had previously been raised about his driving behaviour.
