Vanderbijlpark Scholar Transport Crash Death Toll Rises To 14 As Two More Learners Die

Two more learners have died following a devastating scholar transport crash in Vanderbijlpark earlier this week, bringing the total number of fatalities to 14.
Police confirmed that the two learners succumbed to their injuries in hospital during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The tragic development has intensified the legal case against the man who was driving the scholar transport when it collided with a truck. The 22-year-old driver has now been charged with additional counts of culpable homicide, along with reckless and negligent driving.
Vanderbijlpark Crash Investigation Continues as Charges Increase
According to police, the driver was arrested after being discharged from hospital and is expected to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Authorities have confirmed that the increase in fatalities has directly impacted the charges he now faces, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances that led to the crash.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said investigations into the incident are ongoing and reiterated the seriousness of the charges.
“The 22-year-old scholar transport driver is now facing 14 counts of culpable homicide, as well as reckless and negligent driving.”
The crash has left the Vanderbijlpark community, with the victims’ families, schools and local residents mourning the loss of the learners.
