Van Dyk Park Shooting: Community Shocked After Attempted Hit Linked To Madlanga Inquiry

The Van Dyk Park community in Boksburg has been left shaken following an attempted hit outside the home of a man linked to the Madlanga Commission.
Wiandre Pretorius narrowly escaped death on Thursday morning after unknown gunmen opened fire, unleashing 16 bullets in the attack.

Pretorius was previously implicated during testimony at the Madlanga Commission by the late Witness D, whose real name was Marius van der Merwe.
The testimony linked Pretorius to the torture and murder of a Brakpan man whose body was later dumped in a lake in Germiston.
Van Dyk Park Residents Wake to Gunfire
The shooting has sent shockwaves through the usually quiet neighbourhood, with residents struggling to come to terms with the violence in their area.

Local resident Stoffel Russouw said the sound of gunshots jolted the community awake in the early hours of the morning.
“US, as a neighbourhood, we try and look out for each other, but this is very close to home where this happened, and I think everybody is afraid.”
Safety Fears Grow in Once-Quiet Neighbourhood
Residents say the incident has left them deeply concerned about their safety and the future of the community.
“It’s very shocking for a person to see something like this happening in your area.”
Another long-term resident added: “I’ve been staying here for 33-years and nothing like this has ever happened.”
