US And China Near Final TikTok Deal As Trump And Xi Signal Agreement

The White House has indicated that a long-awaited deal on TikTok could be finalized soon, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying it is expected to be signed “in the coming days.”

This follows President Donald Trump’s update on Truth Social after a call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where he noted “progress” on the matter and said he had “approved the TikTok deal.”

However, Chinese state media described the discussion differently, with Xi emphasizing that negotiations must align with “market rules” and “Chinese laws and regulations,” while ensuring both sides’ interests are respected.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, issued its own statement: “We thank President Xi Jinping and President Donald J. Trump for their efforts to preserve TikTok in the United States.

ByteDance will work in accordance with applicable laws to ensure TikTok remains available to American users through TikTok U.S.”

Deal Structure Gives Majority Control to US

Speaking on Fox News’ Saturday in America, Leavitt elaborated on the structure of the deal, saying: “We are 100 percent confident that a deal is done. Now that deal just needs to be signed.”

She explained that TikTok’s U.S. operations would be majority-owned by American investors, with a board consisting of seven seats—six of which would be held by Americans. Oracle would lead data protection and privacy, while control over the app’s algorithm would also shift to the U.S.

“All of those details have already been agreed upon,” Leavitt said. “Now we just need this deal to be signed, and that will be happening, I anticipate, in the coming days.”

Reports suggest the final negotiations include launching a new app for U.S. TikTok users, retaining ByteDance’s algorithm technology, granting U.S. investors majority control, and potentially securing a multibillion-dollar payout for the Trump administration.

Despite progress, the deal is not yet official. Trump has once again extended TikTok’s deadline to avoid a full ban, giving both sides until December to finalize the agreement.
