UPDATED | Bodycam Footage Captures Dramatic Arrest Of Killer Couple In Shakaskraal, KZN

A dramatic bodycam recording has revealed the moment a murder suspect tried to escape from a Shakaskraal home in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday afternoon. The footage shows the suspect leaping from beneath a pile of clothing in a desperate attempt to flee.

The arrest followed one of 27 tip-offs received by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) about the whereabouts of a 34-year-old couple wanted for the killing of Dr. William Mputhi (33) in Shakas Head on Saturday.

SurgeZirc SA had initially reported that the couple allegedly attacked the victim with a gardening tool before fleeing the scene with their three-year-old child.

Reaction Officers Surround Home After Arresting Wife; Bodycam Shows

In the footage, RUSA officers are seen blocking both doors of the room, while others search the home shortly after apprehending the suspect’s wife. Additional officers took up positions at the windows of the five-bedroom property, where ten other occupants were present.

Observation teams using binoculars were confident the male suspect was still inside the home. Their suspicions proved correct when the man suddenly stood up just meters away from an officer about to search a cupboard.

The suspect, described as aggressive, was quickly forced to the ground and restrained by RUSA officers.

The couple remains in custody as investigations into the brutal murder of Dr. Mputhi continue.
