Update: Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested After Fatal Pedestrian Accident 

The suspect, of a hit-and-run incident who fled the scene after running over a man, have been  apprehended by Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after a swift investigation.

The incident in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, led to the death of a pedestrian.

A plumber tragically lost his life while walking home after work on Tuesday afternoon.

The 45-year-old man was hit by a vehicle on the M27 near Waterloo, Verulam, and was fatally injured.

The driver responsible for the accident immediately fled the scene, leaving the pedestrian lying on the road.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the hit-and-run  incident and began gathering evidence.

At the scene, RUSA discovered parts of a vehicle, including a grill and a registration plate, which helped them begin their investigation.

With limited clues but a clear trail, RUSA officers quickly launched a search to locate the suspect’s vehicle and ensure justice for the victim who died following the hit-and-run.

Vehicle Recovery

The RUSA Operations Centre received a tip-off about a damaged champagne-colored Nissan X-Trail that had been seen turning into a housing complex in Hammonds Farm, near Waterloo.

Acting on this information, RUSA officers quickly responded and recovered the vehicle, confirming it matched the description of the one involved in the hit-and-run accident.

Upon inspection, officers noticed that the grill was missing, and the rear number plate had been removed.

Investigating further, they identified the owner of the vehicle as a resident of the nearby area.

When RUSA officers visited the suspect’s residence, they were met by his wife, who revealed that her husband had fled the scene after parking the vehicle.

The investigation took a major step forward when the suspect voluntarily handed himself over to the Verulam South African Police Service (SAPS) on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old man was arrested and is now facing charges related to the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of the plumber.
