Tyla Makes Grammy History With Second Win For Best African Music Performance

South African singer Tyla has once again placed African music on the global stage, winning her second Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, 1 February.

She secured the accolade with her track “PUSH 2 START”, featured on the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album. The win cements her position as one of the continent’s most influential young artists.

With this latest victory, Tyla becomes the first artist to win the Best African Music Performance category twice since it was introduced in 2024, marking a historic milestone for both her career and African music at large.

The category continues to highlight the expanding international influence of African sounds, and Tyla’s repeat win signals the enduring global appeal of her music beyond South Africa’s borders.

She emerged victorious in a highly competitive field that included Burna Boy with “Love”, Davido featuring Omah Lay on “With You”, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s collaboration “Gimme Dat”, and Eddy Kenzo with Mehran Matin on “Hope and Love”.

Each nominated track showcased a different regional flavour and creative partnership, reflecting the diversity and evolution of contemporary African music.

The award came shortly after Tyla celebrated her 24th birthday, adding a personal highlight to an already landmark moment in her journey.

The singer did not attend the pre-telecast ceremony where the award was announced, but she later appeared on the red carpet and her 2026 Grammys look was a match made in heaven.

The singer returned to the star-studded awards show and didn’t disappoint with her effortlessly cool fashion.
