Two Zimbabwean Nationals Arrested For Possession Of Stolen State Vehicle Parts

Two Zimbabwean nationals, aged 26 and 37, are set to appear before the Belfast Magistrate’s Court following their arrest for possession of disassembled state vehicle parts on Tuesday, 19 November 2024. These vehicle parts were found in Belfast and belong to the Department of Health.

State Vehicle Parts Discovery

The vehicle in question, a state-owned Toyota Hilux, was parked on hospital premises after being involved in an accident. On Monday, 18 November 2024, around 23:00, the suspects deceived security personnel by claiming they were bringing a critically ill person to the hospital.

Upon gaining entry, the suspects brandished firearms subdued the security guards by tying them up and instructed them to lie on the floor. After the guards managed to free themselves, they discovered the vehicle was missing.

A case of business robbery was swiftly registered at Belfast SAPS, prompting an intensive investigation. The collaborative efforts of the Witbank Tactical Response Team, Middleburg Flying Squad, and Belfast SAPS resulted in the apprehension of the suspects.

The stolen vehicle parts were found in the suspects’ possession, some loaded in one of their light delivery vehicles (LDV). Additional vehicle parts were recovered from various locations following further investigation.

Legal Proceedings

The suspects face charges for possessing suspected stolen vehicle parts, with the possibility of additional charges being considered. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the law enforcement officers for their exemplary work.

“Our team of investigators, in collaboration with the prosecutors, will ensure a robust case is presented in court. We are confident the suspects will face justice, reinforcing the message that state property must be respected,” remarked General Mkhwanazi.
