Two Suspects Arrested In Murder Of Ntuzuma Teacher

On the morning of July 29, 2024, a tragic event unfolded at Phikiswayo Primary School in Richmond Farm, Ntuzuma, where a dedicated teacher was shot and killed.

The victim, a 46-year-old woman, was fatally targeted by a gunman who had entered the school expressing a desire to see her. After approaching the teacher directly, the assailant opened fire multiple times before hastily fleeing the scene, leaving the community in shock.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following the incident, police detectives from the provincial serious and violent crimes unit took charge of the investigation. Initial inquiries indicated that the teacher may have been assassinated due to her role as a witness in a significant case involving an inmate at Westville Prison.

The investigation led to the identification of two suspects, a shooter and an accomplice, who were arrested on October 24, 2024. These individuals, aged 36 and 41, have been positively linked to the crime.

Evidence and Court Proceedings

Continuing their investigation, authorities uncovered a crucial piece of evidence on October 25, 2024; a firearm believed to have been used in the murder was discovered at the residence of the suspected shooter, along with the jacket he reportedly wore during the attack.

It was determined that this firearm had been stolen during a robbery in Sherwood, Sydenham, in April 2023. The suspects are facing severe charges including murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and they are scheduled to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on October 28, 2024.

Meanwhile, the already incarcerated suspect connected to this case will be charged appropriately and must also appear in court at a later date.
