Two security guards have been shot and injured during a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery on the N2 southbound near the NPC cement factory, south of Durban.

One of the guards sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to hospital following the attack, which unfolded on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services and law enforcement rushed to the scene as traffic ground to a halt along the busy highway.

Paramedic Garrith Jamieson confirmed that the closure is necessary to allow officials to conduct a thorough investigation.

“The N2 southbound has been closed by NPC has been closed and will be closed for quite some time to allow investigators to investigate this incident.

“I would advise motorists to avoid this area at all costs. At this stage the events leading up to this alleged robbery are unknown. However, all necessary officials are in attendance and will be investigating further.”

Security Guards Airlifted To Hospital After N2 Shooting

Both injured security guards were transported for medical treatment, with one in a critical condition requiring air evacuation.
