Two SANDF Soldiers Fatally Stabbed By Fellow Soldier At Mpumalanga Military Base

A violent confrontation between members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) turned deadly in the early hours of Saturday, when two soldiers were fatally stabbed at the Macadamia military base near Komatipoort, Mpumalanga.
SANDF spokesperson Prince Tshabalala confirmed the tragic incident, stating:
“Preliminary information indicates that a tragic altercation involving SANDF members resulted in the deaths of two soldiers. It is alleged that one of the members fatally stabbed two of his colleagues.”
The suspect, believed to be a fellow soldier, allegedly attempted to take his own life after the attack but was unsuccessful.
Investigation Underway into Military Base Tragedy
Both the SANDF and the South African Police Service (SAPS) have launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the double killing. Tshabalala emphasised that the incident remains under active inquiry.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident remain the subject of ongoing inquiry, and further details will be communicated once officially verified.”
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased soldiers or the alleged attacker, pending formal notification of their families and further investigation.
SANDF Mourns and Calls for Sensitivity
The SANDF has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and called for the public to respect the dignity and privacy of those affected.
“The SANDF expresses its deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased members. This is a deeply painful moment for the organisation and the military community at large,” said Tshabalala.
“We appeal to the public and media to allow the investigative processes to unfold without speculation and to respect the dignity and privacy of the affected families during this difficult time.”
