Two Police Officers Murdered In Ivory Park Deadly Ambush

The South African Police Service in Gauteng has kicked off a major manhunt after two on-duty officers were shot dead in Ivory Park on Friday night.

The Sergeant and Constable, stationed at Ivory Park police station, were carrying out crime-prevention patrols in Extension 9 when they were ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen.

The attackers escaped with two police-issued pistols, an SAPS rifle, and two mobile phones, prompting an urgent search across the province.

Police Deploys Maximum Resources in Province-Wide Search

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has directed Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni to deploy every available resource to track down the killers and recover the stolen firearms.

Mthombeni visited the crime scene on Friday night and has since brought together a specialised task team, including seasoned detectives and tactical operations units, to close in on the suspects.

General Masemola condemned the ongoing attacks on officers, stressing the impact on state authority.

“Between 1 April and 30 September 2025, the SAPS sadly lost six police officers in the line of duty,” he said.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure members are operationally ready, equipped and trained. To all our law enforcement officers: don’t die with the resources we have given you.

“Always be vigilant and act decisively when your life or the lives of the communities we serve are threatened.”

SAPS has appealed to residents and community members to come forward with any information that may help track down the suspects. Officers say even small details could prove vital in locating the men responsible for the deadly attack.
