Two Nigerian Nationals Arrested for Kidnapping And Murder In Mpumalanga

Two Nigerian nationals, Chinedu Chukwu (39) and Ikenna Obi (43), have been arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 49-year-old Gift Combrinck from Lydenburg, Mpumalanga.
Missing Person Case Turns Tragic
According to provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula, a missing person’s case was opened on 23 September 2025 after Combrinck was reported missing from Kellysville, Lydenburg.
Just two days later, on 25 September 2025, his body was discovered near De Clerq Street in Lydenburg. Investigators believe Combrinck was kidnapped before being murdered.

Nigerian Suspects Charged and Court Appearance
Following swift investigations, police arrested Chukwu and Obi, who now face charges of kidnapping and murder.
The two suspects appeared before the Mashishing Magistrate’s Court, where their case was postponed to 2 October 2025. The delay will allow authorities to verify the suspects’ travel documents and enable the investigating team to gather further evidence.
Police Welcome Arrests
Acting provincial commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi praised the work of the detectives and assured the public that the case is being handled with urgency.
“We trust that justice will prevail and that a thorough investigation will be conducted,” Mkhwanazi said.
