Two Newborn Girls Found Dead Days Apart ln Kraaifontein

Residents of Kraaifontein in Cape Town are grappling with grief after the bodies of two newborn baby girls were discovered in separate incidents just days apart, leaving the community shaken and demanding answers.

Bodies Discovered in Sewer Drain and Park

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the latest discovery was made on Wednesday morning, 24 September 2025, when the body of a newborn baby girl was found in a sewerage drain in the Vosho informal settlement, Wallacedene.

“Kraaifontein police registered a concealment of birth case after the baby was found in the drain and declared dead on the scene by medical personnel,” said Twigg.

Just two days earlier, on Monday, 22 September, another newborn baby girl was found by a passer-by in Belmont Park, Wallacedene. According to social media reports, the baby was discovered with a placenta and umbilical cord still attached. Police have opened an inquest docket for this case.

Police Appeal for Public Assistance

No arrests have been made, and investigations into both cases are ongoing.

Community members expressed anger and sorrow online, with many pointing out that several organisations in the area allow mothers in crisis to safely and anonymously surrender their babies with no questions asked.
