Two Men Sentenced To 25 Years For Stealing Electrical Infrastructure

Two men, Tumisang Sello Khosi (31) and Pitso Donald Molalenyane (34), have been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for stealing electrical panels valued at R500,000 and causing R2.5 million in damages to Centlec’s infrastructure.

The Bloemfontein Regional Court have found them guilty of damage to essential infrastructure and theft from essential infrastructure.

 Crime Details

The incident occurred in November 2022, when they unlawfully entered a Centlec substation and stole crucial electrical panels.

They were arrested after being found in possession of the stolen panels.

The duo were sentenced to 15-years for damage to essential infrastructure and another 15 years for theft, with five years of the second sentence to run concurrently.

Justice Served, Community Protected

The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the justice system have reiterated it’s commitment to combat infrastructure-related crimes that negatively impact essential services and the community.

Sergeant Ratiba investigated the case, and the National Prosecuting Authority, represented by Amoré Coetzee, prosecuted the accused.
