Two Killed In Mitchells Plain Tuck Shop Shooting

A 24-year-old woman and a man believed to be homeless were fatally shot outside a tuck shop in Golden Gate Way, Portlands, Mitchells Plain, on Wednesday evening.

Police confirmed the victims were gunned down at around 18:53. The woman was rushed to a medical facility where she later succumbed to her injuries, while the 40-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.

Mitchells Plain Family in Shock

The woman’s uncle, who asked not to be named, said his niece was innocent and not involved in gangsterism.

“I arrived on the scene after the shooting and spoke to the detective, who said that they were buying from the tuck shop. According to rumours the 40-year-old man is homeless. My niece was not involved in any gangsterism, so both of them are innocent. This incident has left the family and community traumatised,” he said.

He added that residents believe the shooting may have been gang-related, given the pattern of drive-by attacks in the area.

“Golden Gate Way is a problem area with gang activity and drugs. Most of the time when innocent people are hurt or killed, it is a case of mistaken identity or being killed by association,” he said.

Police Investigation Underway

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that two counts of murder have been opened.

“On arrival, officers found an unidentified male in his 40s with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was declared deceased by paramedics. The female victim was transported to a medical facility where she later died. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” Van Wyk stated.

No arrests have been made, and the motive remains under investigation.
