Two Drug Mules Nabbed At Cape Town International Airport To Appear In Court

Authorities have arrested two suspected drug mules at Cape Town International Airport within a 24-hour period. The suspects are scheduled to make their first appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.

According to the Hawks, the arrests came after intelligence-led operations at the busy international travel hub.

Man Caught with Cocaine Worth Over R2 Million

In the first incident, a 35-year-old man was intercepted on Wednesday after arriving from Doha. Officers discovered around five kilograms of a substance believed to be cocaine hidden in his check-in luggage. The drugs are estimated to be worth more than R2 million.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani confirmed that follow-up surveillance led to the arrest of the courier sent to collect the mule.

“Both the accused will make their first appearance at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on 10 October 2025,” Hani stated.

In a separate case, a 69-year-old man was caught with 183 bushes of khat, valued at over R10,000, stashed inside his suitcase.

Hani added that the elderly suspect is believed to have been exporting the narcotics from South Africa to the United Arab Emirates. The Hawks continue to investigate possible links between the two arrests.
