Two Arrested in Limpopo After Police Seize Nine Illegal Firearms, Luxury Vehicles

Limpopo police have arrested a 50-year-old man and a female suspect in Thohoyandou after a high-speed chase led officers to a stash of illegal firearms and luxury vehicles.

The arrests was carried out on Tuesday, during an intelligence-driven operation led by the Provincial Investigation Unit and the Provincial Tracking Team.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the officers involved, commending their resilience and dedication. “This successful operation once again highlights the ability of our teams to act swiftly and decisively in tackling serious criminal activity,” she said.

Suspect Caught After Attempted Escape on R524

According to police reports, officers received actionable intelligence about a suspicious vehicle allegedly transporting firearms near Thohoyandou.

The vehicle, matching the description, was spotted along the R524 route to Punda Maria.

Upon noticing the police presence, the driver attempted to flee, prompting a chase.

The suspect’s vehicle was eventually intercepted and stopped at Tshikhudini village.

A 9mm pistol was discovered during a search, and the driver, who failed to provide a valid explanation for the weapon, was arrested on the spot.

Eight More Firearms Found At Suspect’s Home

Following the arrest, further investigation led police to the suspect’s residence, where they found a female occupant.

A thorough search of the property uncovered eight additional unlicensed firearms. The woman was arrested on the scene.

In addition to the weapons, two high-powered luxury vehicles were also seized during the operation.

All recovered items will form part of the ongoing investigation.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 17 April 2025, facing charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
