Two Arrested In Connection With Hijacking, Kidnapping And Murder Of Pretoria Man

On February 13, 2024, the police received a distressing report of the kidnapping and subsequent murder of 61-year-old Tinus Van Lingan, a resident of Pretoria.

Van Lingan had been reported missing the day before, with his last communication with his family occurring at 13:50 on the day of his disappearance. He had mentioned that he was heading to a meeting in Olifantsfontein, JHB.

After thorough investigations, it was confirmed that Van Lingan had been shot, and his body was discovered in the Klipspruit area, south of JHB.

The investigative teams meticulously analysed the evidence from the crime scene and gathered intelligence, which ultimately led them to their first suspect, a 36-year-old man. This suspect admitted to his involvement and provided information that led to the identification of a second suspect.

Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the investigative team proceeded to an address in Tembisa. Upon searching the residence, they successfully apprehended the second suspect.

During the search, a firearm with a magazine and live ammunition was recovered. Additionally, three police reflective jackets, a police cap, and seven live rounds were found in a drawer. The firearm is believed to be the weapon used in the murder.

As part of the investigation, two vehicles were also seized: a blue Ford EcoSport without registration or license disc, and a white Ford Figo.
