In a noteworthy operation, police have arrested two individuals and recovered stolen car parts valued at over R1 million during a raid at a home in Durban North.

This successful operation was carried out by officers from the South African Police Service (SAPS) Ethekwini Economic Infrastructure Task Team, led by Captain Carmen Rhynes.

Acting on a tip-off, officers obtained a search warrant and proceeded to the suspects’ home. Upon arrival, they met the identified couple and conducted a meticulous search of the property.

During this search, police discovered a substantial number of boxes containing branded car parts, securely stored inside a safe beneath a staircase.

The search did not end there. Officers found additional boxes of car spares and accessories stored in a storeroom on the property. They also searched a vehicle belonging to the couple, uncovering further stock of car motor spares.

When questioned about the items, the couple failed to provide any documentation or explanation, leading to their immediate arrest.

Captain Rhynes confirmed that the recovered items are valued at R1.2 million and stated that further investigations are ongoing, with additional charges expected.

Ethekwini District Commissioner, Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa, praised the task team for their excellent work and emphasized the operation as a stern warning to backyard criminals.

Kheswa assured the community that efforts to eradicate opportunistic criminals will continue, commending the EIT team for their dedication and effectiveness.
