Two AK-47 Rifles, Pump-Action Gun And Ammunition Recovered In Duduza, 20-Year-Old Suspect Arrested

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Kwa-Thema Precinct discovered unlicensed firearms and ammunition inside a vehicle in the Duduza area on Friday afternoon.
High-Speed Vehicle Intercepted
At approximately 16:40 on 03 October 2025, EMPD officers spotted a silver VW Polo traveling at high speed without registration plates at the intersection of Sonnestral and Setape Street in Duduza. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was unable to provide valid identification or a driver’s license.

AK-47, Pump-Gun and Ammunition Seized
Officers subsequently requested the driver to open the vehicle’s boot, where they discovered two AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, a pump-action Destroyer gun, and 18 live rounds with magazines. The suspect reportedly claimed he was transporting the firearms to his uncle at a security site.
The suspect’s father later arrived on the scene, asserting that his son was unaware that the firearms were inside the vehicle.

The 20-year-old was arrested and detained at Duduza Police Station, and all firearms and the vehicle have been secured for further investigation. The suspect is expected to appear in court shortly on charges related to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
