Shootout In Tshwane: Suspect Killed, Another Wounded In Failed Business Robbery

One suspect was killed and another wounded during a failed business robbery in Tshwane following a police operation. A third suspect managed to escape.

The incident took place on Thursday, 23 April 2026, during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tshwane District Stabilisation Task Team, working alongside private security.

Police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said officers acted on information about suspects allegedly planning a robbery.

“The suspects were followed from Pretoria. Police attempted to stop the vehicle in Midrand; however, the suspects failed to comply, sped off, and opened fire on the police.”

A shootout followed, with the suspects’ vehicle eventually coming to a stop in Klipfontein View, Rabie Ridge.

“One suspect was fatally wounded, while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard. A third suspect fled the scene on foot,” Sibeko said.

Firearms Recovered as Investigation Continues

Police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition inside the suspects’ vehicle. The serial numbers on the weapons had been removed.

Authorities have opened cases of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate development, thirteen police officers have been arrested in Johannesburg on charges related to corruption and theft in two unrelated incidents.

Nine officers were arrested after allegedly attempting to solicit a bribe from a warehouse owner in Crown Mines, south of Johannesburg.

In another case, four officers were issued with notices to appear in court over a 2024 theft complaint following an investigation by the Serious Corruption Investigation unit.

Provincial Head of the Gauteng Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Ebrahim Kadwa, commended investigators for their efforts.

“Gauteng Serious Corruption will root out corruption and ensure that law enforcement officers are not found wanting! DPCI will deal with corruption without fear, favour or prejudice,” Kadwa said.
