Tshwane Firefighter Injured While Battling Brewery Blaze

A firefighter sustained a serious leg injury while responding to a massive blaze at the Phelindaba Brewery near Atteridgeville on Saturday.

Emergency services, including units from Central, Philip Nel Park, and Atteridgeville, were dispatched to the scene to combat the fire.

Efforts to Contain the Fire

Emergency Services spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni reported that the fire engulfed the brewery’s decanting area and spread to the canteen building.

Firefighters launched aggressive operations to control the flames and prevent further damage to nearby structures.

“By 18:22, the canteen fire was mostly under control, while the decanting area blaze was contained by 18:49,” said Mnguni. Despite progress, the roof collapsed during the operation, adding further complications.

Due to the involvement of hazardous chemicals like caustic soda, additional resources, including foam tenders and a hazardous materials unit, were dispatched to the scene. The fire was fully extinguished by Sunday morning.

Firefighter Injured

A firefighter slipped during the operation, sustaining a significant leg injury. He is currently receiving medical treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the extent of the damage.
