Tshwane Bus Services Back On Track After 84 000-Litre Diesel Delivery

The Tshwane Bus Service is back to full operations after receiving 84 000 litres of diesel at the C de Wet Depot on Wednesday morning, 1 April 2026.

MMC for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale confirmed the delivery allowed the busiest depot, which runs 102 daily shifts, to resume services for the Monday afternoon peak. Fuel deliveries subsequently followed to Jan Niemand and Pretoria North depots.

“This delivery will cover full capacity, and we will be back to full bus operations for the afternoon and throughout the week. Again, we profusely apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused our customers and residents,” Mogale said in a social media statement.

Fuel Shortage Previously Grounded All Bus Services

The diesel delivery comes after a critical shortage brought the city’s bus service to a near standstill. On Sunday and early Monday, all 155 planned daily shifts were affected, leaving thousands of commuters without transport.

By Monday, 30 March, Kaya News reported that buses were grounded in the early hours, while only 65 of the planned 155 shifts could operate on limited remaining fuel on Tuesday, 31 March.

Mogale described the outage as “totally unacceptable” and said it prompted immediate action.

City Responds with Accountability Measures

Mogale has engaged Executive Mayor Nasiphi Moya and initiated disciplinary action for “non-performance” against officials responsible for the fuel outage.

“I have also engaged with the Executive Mayor on this non-performance matter and am expecting a non-performance letter from the Governance Support Officer (GSO) to be issued. What our residents and commuters were subjected to yesterday is totally unacceptable,” Mogale said.

With fuel deliveries now stabilising operations, TBS is expected to maintain full services across all depots for the remainder of the week, alleviating commuter disruptions.
