Tshedi Mholo Wants Her Vocals Removed From All Malaika Songs

Former Malaika singer Tshedi Mholo and group member Bongani have found themselves embroiled in a bitter dispute over who owns the intellectual rights to the group.
This clash of titans has been brewing for a while, reaching a boiling point in a 2018 email exchange that left Tshedi reeling.

During a recent interview on ‘Podcast and Chill with MacG’, Tshedi revealed a rather surreal moment. She recounted receiving an email from Bongani claiming copyright ownership.
According to her, the email was delivered through a lawyer from Mooikloof – quite the meticulous touch, delivered via Word document no less! Tshedi demanded the removal of her performances, her vocals, and essentially everything she created for the group. Her response? “That girl must start from the beginning.”
Not one to let things slide, Tshedi mentioned that she and her legal team were gearing up for a rigorous battle. “There’s a step we are going to take and it’s not going to end well,” she ominously added.
By 2021, the tension had escalated to such heights that Tshedi decided to sever ties with Malaika. After being a part of the iconic group since 2003, her departure was announced with a heavy heart.
In her statement, she said, “Effective immediately, I would like to inform you that I will not be doing any public performance or whatsoever under the banner of Malaika.”
Tshedi also opened up about the personal struggles that led to her decision to leave the band. “Being in the band took a toll on me on so many levels, and I have reached a stage where I cannot carry the burden any further,” she confessed.
The emotional and legal drama surrounding Malaika reflects the immense pressure and intricate dynamics that often exist behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.
