Trump Suggests Possible U.S. Troop Deployment Or Air Strikes In Nigeria Amid Christian Killings

U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted that the United States might deploy troops or launch air strikes in Nigeria to halt what he described as the mass killing of Christians in the country.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said there “could be” U.S. military involvement in Nigeria as part of efforts to stop the violence.

“Could be. I mean, other things. I envisage a lot of things. They’re killing record numbers of Christians in Nigeria. They’re killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We’re not going to allow that to happen,” Trump stated.

The President made the remarks while returning to Washington after spending the weekend at his Florida vacation home.

Trump Warns Nigeria Over Religious Violence

Just a day before his comments, the US President warned that the U.S. could take military action against Nigeria if authorities failed to stop the ongoing attacks on Christians.

His statement followed the decision by his administration to restore Nigeria to its “Countries of Particular Concern” list — a designation for nations accused of violating religious freedoms.

Other countries currently on the list include China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia and Pakistan. The move underscores growing U.S. concern over religious persecution in several regions across the world.
