Truck Accident On R21 Near Tembisa Claims Two Lives

Tragedy struck on the R21 near Tembisa in Ekurhuleni this afternoon when two pedestrians were fatally hit by a truck. Reports indicate that the man and woman were attempting to cross the busy freeway at the time of the accident.
Emergency Services Respond to the Scene
William Ntladi, spokesperson for the City’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), confirmed that emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call.
“On arrival, an Articulate Truck was found to have been the one involved, two motionless bodies lying on the left edge of the freeway. One of the two pedestrians was under the truck while the other was on the pavement,” Ntladi said.

The tragic incident shows the extreme danger of crossing high-speed routes such as the R21. Authorities continue to urge pedestrians to avoid using freeways as crossing points and to make use of designated pedestrian bridges where available.
