Transnet Engineer Armand Swart Murder: CCTV Footage Reveals Vehicles Used, Witness Details At Madlanga Inquiry

At the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, witness testimony revealed new details about the murder of Transnet engineer Armand Swart. Screengrabs of CCTV footage showing the vehicles allegedly used in the killing were presented as evidence on Monday morning.

Witness “A”, a member of Gauteng’s Organised Crime Unit, provided the evidence while testifying partially in-camera. Due to safety concerns, he appeared from a safe house at an undisclosed location, with his voice broadcast but his face concealed.

Hyundai and Mercedes Linked to Crime Scene

Witness “A” described how a Hyundai I20 followed Swart to his offices in Vereeniging on the morning of 17 April last year, the day he was fatally shot. Swart was killed in a case of mistaken identity, reportedly linked to Transnet fraud investigations.

He said: “Two vehicles were seen on the CCTV cameras and one of those vehicles was a Hyundai, which was recovered. And we were told that this vehicle was driving around the crime scene making turns with a Mercedes Benz that was later recovered.”

The witness also noted that the same Hyundai I20 had been observed scouting the street alongside a Mercedes Benz approximately four hours before the murder.

As part of the investigation, authorities recovered a bag containing multiple firearms. Witness “A” detailed: “We found a bag that loaded with three firearms, one of which was a rifle, and two were pistols and a lot of ammunition.”

These findings form a critical part of the ongoing inquiry, as investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to Swart’s murder.
