Tragic R57 Bus Crash In Free State Leaves One Dead, Dozens Injured

A tragic bus accident on the R57, approximately 10 kilometres from Heilbron towards Petrus Steyn in the Free State, claimed the life of one passenger and left several others injured on Saturday.

The crash adds to a spate of recent road accidents across the province, which have led to multiple fatalities and raised concerns about road safety.

Emergency Services Respond, Injured Taken to Hospital

Sipho Towa, provincial road incident management spokesperson, confirmed that emergency responders arrived at the scene where one passenger was declared dead on arrival.

Towa provided a breakdown of injuries: one passenger sustained serious injuries, two suffered moderate injuries, and six others sustained minor wounds. Twenty-nine passengers escaped unharmed but received psychosocial support at the scene.

“All patients were transported to Tokollo Hospital in Heilbron for further medical attention,” Towa said.

Bua Crash Leads To Traffic Disruptions 

Authorities implemented temporary road closures and traffic control measures, causing delays for motorists travelling along the R57. Drivers were urged to exercise caution while recovery operations were underway.

The incident comes amid a concerning rise in fatal road accidents in the Free State in recent weeks, with officials repeatedly calling on motorists to drive safely and obey traffic regulations.
