The incident took place near Fairbreeze Mine during heavy rain on Sunday. Authorities reported that two vehicles collided on this busy route, prompting immediate emergency response measures.

Government Plea for Caution

In light of this tragic event, the KwaZulu-Natal government has issued a plea for caution among motorists. Ndabazinhle Sibiya, the spokesperson for the MEC for Transport, confirmed that the northbound lane has been closed to facilitate cleanup operations.

Sibiya emphasized the importance of heeding weather warnings, especially as the province is under an orange level 6 weather warning, predicting heavy rainfall across the region.

Commitment to Road Safety

As the region braces itself for further rough weather, Sibiya reassured the public that road traffic inspectorate teams are on high alert, actively patrolling both highways and byways. This proactive approach aims to prevent further fatalities on the roads.

Similarly, MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma spoke about the need for unity in ensuring road safety. He encouraged motorists to cooperate with traffic departments and law enforcement to create safer travel conditions amid challenging weather circumstances.
