Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said the incident was reported to authorities on Wednesday, but persistent heavy rainfall initially prevented the retrieval of her body.
“In the morning, the police and community members searched the riverbanks and found her just five kilometres downriver. The family has identified the body,” Ndubane said.

Authorities Urge Public to Avoid Flooded Rivers
Ndubane warned the public against attempting to cross rivers and streams during ongoing heavy rains in the Lowveld.
“Since December [2024], there have been a lot of people who have drowned or been swept away by rivers. Our acting provincial commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, will call a meeting with stakeholders, especially since the schools have opened and the rivers are now full,” he said.
Persistent rainfall has caused widespread flooding across Mpumalanga and Limpopo, resulting in school closures, infrastructure damage, and flight suspensions. Residents have been urged to stay vigilant and avoid high-risk areas.
