A tow truck driver from Kwazulu-Natal is currently fighting for his life in the hospital following a serious incident on the N2 near Shaka’s Rock.

The driver, who works for Mins Breakdown Services, had responded to an earlier road accident in the same area when another car crashed into his vehicle.

According to Kelsey-Jay Meyrick from IPSS Medical Rescue, emergency teams arrived at the scene to find multiple towing companies already present, having attended to the earlier accident.

Meyrick stated, “The operator was busy at the scene on the N2 when a vehicle failed to slow down and crashed into one of the towing vehicles, hitting the driver. He sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital under the care of an IPSS Medical Rescue advanced life support paramedic.”

This incident marks the third crash in the area within the past four months where tow truck drivers have either been critically injured or killed as a result of secondary crashes at accident scenes.

Meyrick emphasized the need for drivers to exercise caution and be vigilant on the roads. She urged drivers to drive responsibly and slow down when approaching accident scenes to protect our first responders.
