Top SAPS Officer Heads To France To Meet Investigators Over Nathi Mthethwa’s Death

A senior officer from the South African Police Service (SAPS) is scheduled to depart for France on Tuesday to meet with French investigators probing the death of South Africa’s Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa.

The 58-year-old diplomat tragically died in Paris last week after allegedly falling from the twenty-second floor of a well-known hotel in the city. The incident has drawn widespread attention both locally and internationally.

Nathi Mthethwa Death: Police-to-Police Cooperation Underway

While reports initially suggested that five senior detectives would be sent abroad, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has since clarified that only one senior officer will be travelling.

Addressing the media in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, Masemola explained that the purpose of the visit is to engage directly with French authorities and obtain an official report on Mthethwa’s death.

“We are working on police-to-police cooperation. We do have a senior officer that will be in the country. He will be leaving today and update the nation on his activities and whereabouts once he’s there,” said Masemola.

The visit shows the growing cooperation between South African and French law enforcement in resolving the circumstances surrounding the ambassador’s death. Authorities have yet to confirm further details pending the outcome of the French investigation.
