The Birth of a Kwaito Legend

In the early 90s, a group of school friends, including Bala and Kabelo Mabalane, united to form the iconic group TKzee. They burst onto the music scene in 1997 with their hit single “Phalafala,” capturing the spirit of a generation.

The following year, their collaboration with soccer star Benni McCarthy on the anthem “Shibobo,” dedicated to the 1998 FIFA World Cup, catapulted them to international fame. These songs remain staples that evoke joy and nostalgia.

Tokollo’s Lasting Impact

In 1998, TKzee released their groundbreaking album, “Halloween,” which achieved platinum certification from the Recording Industry of SA, selling over 200,000 copies. With hit singles like “We Love This Place,” the group won multiple awards at the SA Music Awards, solidifying their place in South African music history.
