Three Teenagers Killed In Cape Town Shootings As Gang Violence Escalates

Three teenagers have lost their lives and another has been injured in two separate shootings in Cape Town over the past 48 hours, with police investigating possible gang-related violence.
The latest attack unfolded in Eerste River on Tuesday morning, where two teenagers were shot dead and a third wounded. A day earlier, a 16-year-old boy was gunned down in Mitchells Plain.
Police have launched murder investigations into both incidents. No arrests had been made at the time of publication.
Eerste River Shooting Leaves Two Teenagers Dead And One Injured
The Eerste River shooting occurred shortly before 9am in Feyenoord Street, Dennemere. Police said the victims were standing in the street when four unidentified men approached and opened fire.
A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old died at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. A 16-year-old was wounded and rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said detectives from Kleinvlei SAPS are investigating two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
“Kleinvlei police registered two counts of murder and an attempted murder following a shooting incident at about 8.50am at a premises in Feynenoord Street, Dennemere, Eersterivier, in which two males aged 17 and 18 were fatally wounded and a 16-year-old injured.
“Both the deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies and died on the scene due to injuries sustained.
“The injured victim was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
“According to reports, the victims were standing at the mentioned address when four unidentified males walked up to them and randomly shot at them.”
Police believe the motive for the shooting is gang-related.
Mitchells Plain Shooting Claims Life Of 16-Year-Old Boy
In a separate incident, a 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, on Monday afternoon. The shooting happened in Korfbal Street at around midday.
According to police, the teenager sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and was declared dead at the scene.

Western Cape police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana confirmed that detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“The shooting incident of a 16-year-old male took place around 12pm at Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley on Monday, 20 July.
“Police reports state that the deceased endured two gunshot wounds to his head and the circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation; furthermore, no arrest has been made yet.”
Police Appeal For Information As Cape Town Communities Mourn
The latest shootings have heightened fears in communities already grappling with violent crime. Residents say ongoing killings have left many people living in fear.
A representative of the Mitchells Plain United Residents said the continued violence has taken a heavy toll on the community.
“One thing I know is that Mitchells Plain is grieving and in pain.
“Fear has taken over most of our communities as the killings are continuing unabated.”
