Three Suspected Cash-In-Transit Robbers Killed In Fierce Gun Battle

A dramatic shootout unfolded in Reservoir Hills, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of three suspected cash-in-transit robbers.

The confrontation began with the suspected robbers when local authorities received a credible tip-off about an imminent robbery, prompting them to intercept the suspects.

Violent Confrontation

According to Brigadier Jay Naicker, provincial police spokesperson, the suspects opened fire on police when they attempted to stop their vehicle.

A fierce gun battle ensued, with the suspected robbers leaving three of the assailants fatally wounded.

Police recovered two firearms and a grenade from the vehicle of the suspected robbers, highlighting the suspects’ willingness to employ extreme violence.

Ongoing Investigations

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were wanted for a string of cash-in-transit heists dating back to 2021.

The authorities disclosed the operation to be  a long-standing criminal network operating in the area.

Two police officers were injured during the shooting and received immediate medical attention.

The recovered firearms will undergo ballistics tests as investigations continue to determine if the suspects were involved in other cases.
